MTK Universal VBMeta Patcher & Root Helper Free Download 2026

I downloaded the Universal MTK VBMeta Patcher from GitHub and checked the latest v3.1.0 release. I tested the script to see how it handles the vbmeta patching process on MediaTek devices. I also checked the new changes because this version no longer uses the old Windows batch file.

During my testing, I found that everything now runs through a single Python script. The setup takes a little more time if Python is not already installed, but after that the tool works from one script instead of different Windows and Linux versions.

My Testing

I extracted the files, connected my MediaTek phone in Fastboot Mode, and ran thescript. The tool checked the connected device automatically before starting the patching process. 

I also placed a patched boot.img file in the same folder to check the Root Helper feature. The script detected it and asked if I wanted to flash it after patching vbmeta. I did not have to enter extra fastboot commands manually.

What I Checked

While using the tool, I checked these functions:

• Automatic flashing without typing fastboot commands.
• A/B slot detection.
• Metadata erase process.
• Root Helper for Magisk and APatch boot images.
• Terminal logs during the complete process.
• Automatic installation of missing Python modules.

New Changes in Version 3.1.0

After checking the latest release, these are the changes I noticed.

• The old Windows .bat file has been removed.
• The tool now works with a single Python script.
• Missing Python modules are installed automatically on the first run.
• Better support for both Windows and Linux.
• Automatic A/B slot detection.
• Improved metadata erase process to help avoid MTK dm-verity bootloops.
• Automatic Root Helper for Magisk and APatch patched boot images.
• Cleaner terminal output with separate log files.

Things I Found

I found that the tool saves time because most of the work is automatic. I only needed to connect the phone in Fastboot Mode and start the script. It checked the device and handled the remaining steps by itself.

I also noticed the automatic dependency installer. If a required Python module is missing, the script installs it instead of stopping with an error.

Small Problem I Noticed

This tool is not made for complete beginners. You still need an unlocked bootloader, Python installed, ADB and Fastboot working, and USB debugging enabled before starting.

If your phone is not detected correctly in Fastboot Mode, the script cannot continue.
